At Citizens Advice Portsmouth, we are committed to supporting everyone and encouraging communities to stand together against Hate Crimes which are motivated by prejudice against another individual or group of people because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, ability, or any other attribute. These offences can take many different forms, such as verbal or physical abuse, assault, vandalism, and even murder. Hate crimes constitute a major danger to our society's core ideals of equality, fairness, and respect for human dignity. They have a profound and lasting effect on victims and their communities.
Hate crime prevention and response is a complicated, multifaceted subject that calls for cooperation and coordination across stakeholders - law enforcement organisations are crucial in recognising, looking into, and prosecuting hate crimes and we are as a registered Third-Party Reporting Centre. You can report a hate crime, whether you have been a victim, a witness, or report something on behalf of someone else.
Our aim is to help people recognise which may be motivated by hate. It might be an act of violence, hostility or prejudice against you because of who someone else thinks you are - and is focused on characteristics such as disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, or transgender identity.
